A recipe for starting a business

A recipe for starting a business

I guess we have all been there – having an idea about starting a business, knowing exactly what and how you will do everything but not having enough funds to make things happen. Believe it or not, money, or lack of money more precisely, is what made me give up.

When I was little, I used to pretend that I was a chef at a fancy and very elegant restaurant. I even had a mini oven, lots of plates (plastic ones, of course) and all other kinds of toys that a child would need for cooking. And once a week, my parents would come to my room and pretend that they were in a restaurant where I worked.

As I grew older, I took an interest in other things as well, but I always knew that being a chef was my dream job, so I took numerous cooking classes and made sure that I got acquainted with everything that a respectable chef should know. And since I was very creative, I never had problems coming up with new recipes, almost all of which turned out to be great. At least this is what my friends say.

Eventually, I found a job in a restaurant and my boss was simply awful. I don`t even want to remember it, let alone talk about it. After that, there were a couple of other job opportunities but those did not exactly pan out due to the fact that the owners were, most often, very narrow-minded and they didn`t miss out on the opportunity to take advantage of my time.

When I decided to open my own restaurant, I was faced with so many different problems, all of which came down to one single thing – money. Of course, I simply did not have enough of it. I was aware of the possibility of getting a government grant, but since this was said to be extremely difficult, I did not consider it. I turned to various banks for a loan and most of them told me that I was not exactly what they would call a desirable candidate since I had almost nothing to start with.

I wasn`t really keen on applying for a government grant, but since I had no other options, I did it. And there is no possible way I could be happier because guess what, I got it. And after a couple of very busy and stressful months, I opened my very own elegant restaurant that I have always dreamed about. No more bosses, no more dull menus, no more of the same old, same old recipes.

Hence, the key ingredient for starting a business is a government grant.
